Supta Virasana A (Reclined Hero Pose)

Supta Virasana (Sanskrit: सुप्तवीरासन; IAST: suptavīrāsana) or Reclined Hero Pose

Start in a kneeling position with the feet by the sides of the hips (rather than sitting on the heels).

Position your bottom between the feet.

Place the hands on the floor besides you and start to walk the hands back as you lower your body down backwards.

Inhale and keep lifting the chest and lengthen the spine.

Exhale as you position your back on the floor.

Inhale as you lift your arms up and over your head and rest them on the floor.

Hold here for three to five breaths.

You can now also move into Supta Virasana B & C from here also.

To come up and out, bring the arms to the sides of your body and come onto your forearms. Keep the chest lifting so not to compress the lower back, and walk back up in a reverse way to how you lowered into the posture.
