Eczema

Eczema (from Greek ἔκζεμα ēkzema, “to boil over”) is a condition that causes the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) to become itchy, red, dry and cracked. It is a long-term, or chronic, condition. Atopic eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is the most common form of eczema. It mainly affects children, but can continue into adulthood.
There are various forms of eczema which can affect a person; atopic, contact, xerotic and seborrheic. For this article we are to look at ‘atopic’ eczema, one of the most common forms of eczema. Atopic eczema has usually a heredity component which runs in families that have asthma. It tends to show itself on the head, neck, scalp, inside of elbows, knees and buttock. Yoga techniques can certainly help in reducing the symptom of eczema and can even cure it completely.

What is the symptom trying to tell you?
Eczema is an itchy irritating rash on the upper layer of the skin. The skin is usually the last place for the real issue or cause to show itself on. It’s showing itself on the skin to get your attention, but the true cause of the symptom is deep inside/within you. There is something you are avoiding, something that is/has irritated or angered you, which you have stored away from facing. Only you will know. Is there something you have gotten upset about but the feeling about it is so negative, you wish to avoid it? Turning inwards through meditation, breathing and gentle yoga postures will help you face it, release it and heal yourself, without it hurting you. Be truthful with yourself in some quiet yoga. Yoga can help you heal from the inside out.
