Influenza (flu)

Influenza (also known as flu) is a highly infectious and very common viral illness that is spread by coughs and sneezes; however it is not the same as when you have a cold. Flu is caused by a different group of viruses and symptoms tend to be more severe and last for longer.


Flu tends to target those with a compromised or low immune system (like the elderly or those with certain long-term medical conditions), however if you are simply run down or stressed in some way, this too can affect your immune system. Like most illnesses and dis-eases, prevention is better than cure, so keeping your whole being healthy is vital. However, yoga can also help you if you are suffering from flu, or other symptoms.

What is the symptom trying to tell you?

Your body and energies are tired. You now need to bring some energy into yourself and focus on your health and well being. Forget about everyone else and what needs to be done, you are as important as the next person and so it’s time to put yourself to the top of your list. Ailments such as flu are given to you to make you stop and reassess your daily living. Are you pushing yourself to the limits without enough rest time? Are you doing more for others than you are for yourself and so using up lots of your own energy resources? What can you change to ease the pace that caused your symptoms? Take time to meditate and relax. Be with yourself and listen to your intuition. You know what changes you need to make
